Testosterone shot cost

Short answer

The cost of a testosterone shot depends on who gives it. An injection given at the clinic is billed per visit, so how often you need one drives the monthly total. Injecting at home swaps those visits for a vial, syringes, alcohol pads and a sharps container, plus a teaching visit. Ultimate Male offers both routes and quotes either one before you book.

What does a testosterone shot cost at the clinic?

At the clinic you pay for the visit as well as the medicine, so the number of visits each month sets most of the cost. MedlinePlus describes the standard testosterone injection as one given into a muscle by a doctor or nurse in an office or clinic, which is the in-clinic route.

How often you come in depends on your schedule. The testosterone cypionate label gives 50 to 400 mg every two to four weeks for men with low testosterone, and your provider may choose a shorter interval for your plan. A weekly schedule means about four visits a month; every two weeks means about two. Our answer on weekly or twice-weekly injections explains why schedules differ.

What does self-injecting at home cost?

At home, the visit fee disappears and supplies take its place. You pay for the medication by the vial, plus syringes and needles, alcohol pads and a sharps container, and usually one visit to learn the technique. MedlinePlus notes that for the weekly product injected under the skin, the first dose is given in the office, after which you or a caregiver may give it.

Vial size matters for budgeting. The cypionate label lists 1 mL and 10 mL vials at 200 mg/mL, and 10 mL vials at 100 mg/mL, so a larger vial covers more weeks at the same dose. Disposal is a small but real cost: the FDA’s page on sharps disposal containers recommends placing used needles in an FDA-cleared container right away and, once it is about three-quarters full, following your community’s guidelines to get rid of it. Our answer on disposing of TRT needles in California covers local options.

Clinic shots and home shots side by side

The two routes cost different things rather than one simply costing more. Clinic shots spend money and time on visits; home shots spend it on supplies and a little practice. The table shows where each route puts your money, so you can price both against your own schedule.

Cost factor In-clinic injections Home injections
Medication Supplied for each visit Your own vial, used over weeks
Supplies Included in the visit Syringes, needles, alcohol pads, sharps container
Visits One per injection A teaching visit, then follow-ups
Time Travel and waiting each time A few minutes at home
Disposal Handled by the clinic Your sharps container and drop-off
Who gives it A clinician You, after training

Costs both routes share

Whichever route you choose, labs and follow-up visits stay on the bill. Testosterone levels, hematocrit and PSA need checking during treatment, and the cypionate label asks for hemoglobin and hematocrit to be checked periodically on long-term use. Those costs are the same whether the shot happens in a clinic chair or your kitchen, and they are easy to leave out when comparing quotes, so ask for them to be listed. For the full monthly picture, including labs, see TRT cost per month.

Paying for injections

Testosterone injections for diagnosed deficiency are generally payable with HSA or FSA funds, and the clinic gives an itemized receipt for every visit. Ultimate Male does not bill insurance, charges per visit with no membership, and offers bundle pricing on longer plans. To spread payments out, you can finance through CareCredit, Prosper Healthcare Lending or Afterpay. Arcadia Police Officers Association members receive 13% off TRT and a free monthly B-12 injection, and our page for firefighters and police officers has the details.

Choosing your route at Ultimate Male

Injectable testosterone is offered both ways at Ultimate Male: a controlled dose on a set schedule, in clinic or at home. The choice is made at a one-on-one consultation with a PA-C or MD, after a free 10-minute call and the TRT pre-screening panel, which is bundled with your first consultation.

Your quote covers the medication at your dose, either the visit schedule or the supplies and teaching visit, and the follow-up labs, and you see it before booking. You can read more about the medicine on our testosterone cypionate page and the treatment on our testosterone injections page, or start from the testosterone therapy overview.

Still unsure? Take the free assessment

How many doses are in one vial?
Divide the vial's total milligrams by your dose. A 10 mL vial at 200 mg/mL holds 2,000 mg in all, so the number of doses depends entirely on the amount your provider sets.
Can I switch between clinic shots and home shots?
Yes. Some men start with clinic visits and move to home injections once comfortable, or go the other way when travel or work changes. Tell your provider so the plan and quote change with you.
I am nervous about needles. Does that change the cost?
It can. Men who prefer not to self-inject usually pay for more clinic visits, while those who learn the technique trade visits for supplies. A teaching visit often settles the question.
