Who should not get NEO Slim?

Short answer

Skip NEO Slim if you have a pacemaker, defibrillator, nerve stimulator or drug pump, or metal implanted in or near the area to be treated. Studies of the same technology also excluded people with cancer, heart disease, bleeding conditions, fever or infection, reduced skin sensation and injured muscles. A recent operation in the area means waiting, and the studies stopped at a BMI of 35.

Which implants rule out NEO Slim?

Electronic implants are a firm no, and metal near the treatment area is too. NEO Slim combines electromagnetic pulses with radiofrequency heat, and researchers screen out anyone with a condition that rules out either form of energy. The registered trial of this combined technology excluded anyone with:

  • Electronic implants such as cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators and nerve stimulators
  • Implanted drug pumps
  • Metal implants

The trial excluded metal implants of any kind. In practice, whether a distant implant can be worked around is a decision for your provider, made with the device maker’s instructions in hand. Metal in or near the area to be treated is not something to negotiate.

Which health conditions rule it out?

Several, and most come down to heat, circulation or tissue that cannot respond normally. The same trial listed these exclusions, and the published upper-arm study summarized the main ones as cardiovascular disease, cancer and pregnancy.

Condition What it means for you
Heart disease Not studied; needs a different plan or your cardiologist’s input
Cancer, or swelling or growths in the area Not studied; the area is not treated
Bleeding conditions Not studied; raise it at screening
Fever, infection or acute inflammation Wait until it has cleared
Reduced feeling of heat or pain in the area You could not warn the team if the heat is too much
Injured or impaired muscles Wait until the muscle has healed
Lung insufficiency Not studied
Graves’ disease (an overactive thyroid) Not studied
Skin disease or a rash in the area Treat the skin first

If any of these apply to you, say so at the consultation. Some are temporary, such as an infection, and simply mean waiting.

Why does recent surgery in the area mean waiting?

Because a healing incision or repaired muscle is exactly the kind of tissue the trial kept out. Its exclusion list does not name surgery, but it does exclude injured or impaired muscles, swelling in the treatment area and acute inflammation, and a recent operation usually involves all three. Abdominal surgery adds another question: some repairs leave staples, clips or mesh behind.

Wait until your surgeon has cleared you for normal activity in that area, and bring the operative details if you have them. A hernia repair, gallbladder removal or weight-loss surgery in your history is worth mentioning even if it was years ago.

Why does BMI matter for candidacy?

Because the device only works on a thin layer, and the evidence stops at a BMI of 35. Both the upper-arm trial and the abdominal study submitted to the FDA enrolled only people with a BMI of 35 or less, so there is no data above that line.

Size of effect matters too. A 2024 systematic review found an average reduction of 5.5 mm in abdominal fat thickness across the imaging studies. On a lean man, that can sharpen definition. On a thick layer of fat, it barely shows, and the deep visceral fat around the organs is out of reach entirely. For men well above their goal weight, medical weight loss comes first, and our page for men with a BMI over 35 explains that order. Our answer on body sculpting and visceral fat explains the two kinds of belly fat.

What should you tell the provider before your first session?

Everything on this list, even if it seems unrelated:

  1. Any implant or device, with its location
  2. Surgeries, especially in the abdomen, arms, thighs or buttocks
  3. Heart, lung, thyroid or bleeding conditions, and any cancer history
  4. Blood thinners and other medicines
  5. Numbness or nerve problems in the area to be treated
  6. Your weight trend over the past few months

Being screened out is not a failure. It usually means a different first step, and our comparison of NEO Slim and GLP-1 medicines shows how the options fit together.

How Ultimate Male screens you for NEO Slim

At our San Gabriel and Downey clinics, a provider reviews your health history, implants, surgeries and medicines before any session is booked. If something on the list applies, you will hear why, and what else could get you toward the same goal.

When you are a good candidate, the team explains the plan, the number of sessions and what a realistic change looks like. Read more about NEO Slim body sculpting, or call 626-319-5261 for a free 10-minute call to ask about your own history first.

Still unsure? Take the free assessment

Can I have NEO Slim with a knee or hip replacement?
Possibly, if the implant is far from the area being treated, but the study of this technology excluded metal implants of any kind. Your provider decides using the device maker's instructions, so tell the team about every implant before booking.
Do dental fillings or crowns count as metal implants?
Mention them, but they are a long way from the abdomen, arms, thighs or glutes. Hardware close to the treatment area, such as a plate, screws or surgical clips, is the real concern.
Is NEO Slim safe if I have high blood pressure?
Controlled blood pressure on its own was not an exclusion, but cardiovascular disease was. Bring your medication list and heart history to the consultation so the provider can judge your case.
