Who each option suits
A GLP-1 medicine suits men carrying meaningful extra weight, especially around the middle, whose blood sugar, blood pressure or cholesterol is moving the wrong way. NEO Slim suits men who are at or near their goal weight but still have one stubborn area, a soft lower belly or arms that never firm up, and who want more visible muscle there.
They answer different questions. One changes how much fat your whole body carries; the other changes the shape of a specific area.

How does each one work?
GLP-1 medicines
Semaglutide and tirzepatide act on gut hormone pathways that reduce hunger and help you feel full sooner. In the STEP 1 trial, adults on semaglutide plus lifestyle support lost an average of 14.9% of body weight over 68 weeks, compared with 2.4% on placebo. In SURMOUNT-1, average loss at 72 weeks ranged from 15.0% on the lowest tirzepatide dose to 20.9% on the highest, compared with 3.1% on placebo.
The loss is mostly fat. A 2026 meta-analysis found GLP-1 treatment consistently reduced waist size, fat mass and visceral fat, with smaller drops in lean mass. In a SURMOUNT-1 body composition substudy, about 75% of the weight lost on tirzepatide was fat and about 25% was lean mass. That lean share is the reason protein and lifting matter while you are on treatment.
NEO Slim
NEO Slim does not change appetite or total body weight. It uses targeted energy to drive thousands of deep contractions in the treated muscle while heating and breaking down nearby fat cells. In a 2024 review of electromagnetic body contouring devices, no studies reported weight change, which fits what these devices are for: shape, not scale weight.
How to sequence the two
For most men who need both, the order is medicine first, contouring second. Here is a common path:
- Evaluation and labs. Blood work and a body composition scan set the baseline and check whether a GLP-1 is appropriate.
- Active weight loss. Your provider adjusts the dose over months while you focus on protein, strength training and sleep.
- Slowing phase. As weight loss levels off and you near your goal, the shape of what remains becomes clear.
- Contouring. A NEO Slim series targets the area that still bothers you and adds muscle tone there.
- Maintenance. You keep training and follow your provider’s plan for the medicine.

Side effects and who should not use each
GLP-1 side effects are mostly digestive: nausea, diarrhea, constipation and reduced appetite, usually worse during dose increases. They are not for everyone. MedlinePlus notes that semaglutide caused thyroid tumors in rats, and people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 are usually advised not to use it. Severe or persistent abdominal pain, especially spreading to the back, needs urgent medical care.
NEO Slim’s main aftereffect is muscle soreness for a day or two. Devices of this kind are generally avoided over metal implants and in men with implanted electronic devices.
Convenience and cost factors
A GLP-1 plan is an ongoing medical program: medicine, labs, body composition checks and regular follow-ups over many months. NEO Slim is a short series of visits with no medicine to manage. Cost for the first depends on the medicine, dose and length of treatment; for the second, on the number of areas and sessions.
