BOTOX for men cost

Short answer

BOTOX cost for men comes down to units. Clinics price by the unit or by the treatment area, and the FDA label doses are 20 units for frown lines, 24 for crow's feet and 40 for forehead lines treated with frown lines. Men often need more; one trial found at least 40 units worked better for male frown lines. Ultimate Male quotes your total after a consultation.

How is BOTOX priced for men?

BOTOX is priced one of two ways: by the unit or by the treatment area. With per-unit pricing, the bill is the number of units injected times the unit price, so it follows your dose exactly. With per-area pricing, you pay a set fee for a zone such as the forehead, and the clinic absorbs the variation in units within limits.

Neither model is automatically the better deal. Per-unit pricing rewards men who need a light dose; per-area pricing can protect men who need more. Either way, the useful question is how many units your plan assumes for each area, because units are where men’s costs diverge from the averages.

How many units does each area take?

The FDA labels set a standard dose for each area, and they are the starting point for any quote. The BOTOX Cosmetic label gives 20 units for frown lines, 24 units for crow’s feet across both sides, and 40 units when forehead lines are treated together with frown lines. The XEOMIN label uses the same figures and sets a maximum of 64 units when all three upper-face areas are treated at once.

Area BOTOX Cosmetic label XEOMIN label Jeuveau label
Frown lines (between the brows) 20 units 20 units 20 units
Crow’s feet (both sides) 24 units 24 units Not labeled for this area
Forehead lines plus frown lines 40 units 40 units Not labeled for this area
All three upper-face areas 64 units combined Up to 64 units Not labeled
Neck bands (platysma) 26 to 36 units Not labeled Not labeled

Jeuveau’s label covers frown lines only, so its use in other areas is off-label. Your injector sets the dose; the label numbers are context for reading a quote. Our answer on how many units of BOTOX men need goes area by area.

Why a man’s bill often runs higher

A man’s bill often runs higher because thicker, stronger facial muscles usually need more units for the same result. Researchers noted in 2005 that the effective dose for men had not been studied adequately, so they tested it directly. In a randomized trial of 80 men given 20, 40, 60 or 80 units for frown lines, the 40, 60 and 80 unit doses were consistently more effective than 20 units, with longer-lasting results and no rise in side effects, and the authors concluded men benefit from starting doses of at least 40 units.

In cost terms, a man who needs 40 units for frown lines pays for twice the label dose in that area under per-unit pricing. Wider foreheads and stronger brow muscles can add units across the upper face as well. That is why a quote based on the label dose may undershoot what you end up paying, and why an honest estimate starts from an in-person assessment of your muscles.

Comparing BOTOX, XEOMIN and Jeuveau on price

Comparing per-unit prices across brands is misleading, because a unit of one product is not a unit of another. The Jeuveau and XEOMIN labels both state that their units are not interchangeable with other botulinum toxin products. Compare the total cost for the result you want, not the unit price. Our comparisons of BOTOX vs XEOMIN and BOTOX vs Jeuveau cover how each product differs beyond price.

Paying for wrinkle relaxers

Cosmetic BOTOX is paid with regular funds, not HSA or FSA money. IRS Publication 502 excludes procedures directed at improving appearance that do not promote proper body function or treat illness; our answer on HSA for BOTOX and cosmetic treatments explains the narrow exceptions. Financing through CareCredit, Prosper Healthcare Lending and Afterpay can spread the cost of a full upper-face treatment.

Be wary of prices far below the norm. In April 2024 the FDA reported counterfeit Botox found in multiple states, bought from unlicensed sources and linked to hospitalizations. Our article on counterfeit BOTOX warnings covers the signs. If you develop trouble swallowing, breathing or speaking after any botulinum toxin injection, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Still unsure? Take the free assessment

Can I pay for BOTOX with HSA or FSA funds?
Not for wrinkles. IRS rules exclude cosmetic procedures that improve appearance without treating illness, so cosmetic BOTOX, XEOMIN and Jeuveau are paid with regular funds.
How often will I pay for a treatment?
Wrinkle relaxers wear off over months, so the yearly cost depends on how often you return. The XEOMIN label says retreatment should be no more frequent than every three months.
Is a very low price a warning sign?
It can be. In 2024 the FDA warned that counterfeit Botox from unlicensed sources had been injected in multiple states, causing hospitalizations. Confirm your injector buys from an authorized source.
