The countdown in one line
Filler goes in six or more weeks before the wedding, wrinkle relaxers go in two to four weeks before, and the last seven days stay clear of anything new. That spacing comes straight from how each treatment behaves: how fast it works, how long swelling lasts, and how much time a small correction needs to settle.
The plan below is written for the groom and anyone standing next to him in the photos. If you want the full menu of options and months-ahead steps, our aesthetic treatment timeline before an event covers it, and our page for grooms adds weight, skin and sleep.
Why does filler need six weeks?
Filler shows results right away, but the face needs time to calm down, and you want room for a second pass. The American Academy of Dermatology says the redness, swelling, tenderness and occasional bruising after filler tend to clear within 7 to 14 days. That is the first two weeks.
The other four weeks are insurance. If one cheek or one side of the jaw looks a little different once the swelling settles, a top-up is the fix, and that top-up can swell and bruise on its own two-week clock. Six weeks covers the first settle, an assessment, the adjustment and its settle, with a short buffer. Four weeks is a workable minimum for a man who has had filler before and knows his face reacts quietly.
The AAD’s aftercare advice fits around a wedding calendar easily: wait until the next day for hard exercise, keep out of the sun and tanning beds, and avoid touching the area for three days unless you are told to massage it. Our answer on downtime after filler walks through the first week.
Why two to four weeks for BOTOX?
Wrinkle relaxers need a few days to start and a little longer to show their full effect. The AAD’s overview says most people see results within 3 to 7 days and that the improvement lasts about 3 to 4 months, sometimes longer. Two weeks before the wedding is the latest comfortable slot, because it leaves time to see the settled result and see your injector if something looks off.
Four weeks is better for a first-timer. The BOTOX Cosmetic label lists eyelid drooping in 3% of people treated for frown lines and brow drooping in 2% of those treated for forehead lines. Those effects are uncommon, but a man who has never been treated has no history to predict them, and extra weeks give them room to show up and be managed. The label also notes that dosing more often than every three months has not been clinically evaluated, so getting the first dose right matters more than planning on repeated tweaks.
Going much earlier has its own problem. A treatment done four months before the wedding may be wearing off on the day. Our answer on how long BOTOX takes to kick in explains the timeline in more detail.
Why keep the final week clear?
Because bruises keep their own schedule. The AAD’s botulinum toxin FAQs say that if bruising happens after an injection, it lasts about a week. A small mark is a non-event on a normal Tuesday and a headache in the front row of every photo.
The final week is for sleep, water, sunscreen and a haircut. If you want reassurance, book a quick look rather than a new treatment.
The countdown for grooms and groomsmen
Here is the whole plan on one page:
| Time before the wedding | Groom | Groomsmen |
|---|---|---|
| 8 or more weeks | Consultation; decide on filler, a relaxer or both | First-timers book a consultation now |
| 6 or more weeks | Filler, if wanted | Filler, if wanted |
| 4 weeks | Filler check and any small top-up; wrinkle relaxer, ideal for first-timers | First-timers get the relaxer |
| 2 to 3 weeks | Relaxer follow-up check | Men with prior treatment can get the relaxer, no later than two weeks out |
| Final 7 days | Nothing new | Nothing new |
A few practical points make the plan run smoothly:
- Medicines and supplements. The AAD’s filler preparation advice asks you to mention warfarin, aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, St. John’s wort, garlic and ginger supplements, all of which can matter for bruising. Tell your injector, and do not stop a medicine without the clinician who manages it.
- The bachelor trip. Avoid booking injections right before a weekend of sun, travel and late nights; put the appointment after you are home.
- Same-day pairing. Some men get filler and a relaxer at one visit; our answer on doing BOTOX and filler on the same day explains when that works and when spacing is smarter.
For anything after filler like sudden vision change, severe pain, or skin turning white or dusky, call 911 or go to an emergency room right away. Those signs can mean filler has blocked a blood vessel and they cannot wait for the clinic to open.
What results to aim for
The aim for a groom is to look rested and like himself, not altered. Frown lines softened, forehead still able to move a little, jawline or cheeks supported without obvious volume. Our answer on whether BOTOX will make you look frozen explains how dosing keeps expression natural.
Budget for it as a cosmetic expense. Under IRS Publication 502, cosmetic procedures generally are not deductible medical expenses, so BOTOX and filler for appearance usually cannot be paid with FSA or HSA funds.
How Ultimate Male plans around your date
Give us the wedding date on the free 10-minute call and the plan gets built backward from it. The first visit at our San Gabriel or Downey clinic is a consultation with one of our aesthetic and men’s health nurses, working under our medical director, who looks at how your face moves and suggests the smallest set of wrinkle relaxer and dermal filler treatments that fits the time you have.
You get a quote before anything is booked and pay per visit, with no membership. Groomsmen can come in separately or together; just tell the team who is a first-timer so the schedule leaves them extra room.
