What does the research actually show?
That the effect is real in measurements but modest in size. NEO Slim combines radiofrequency heat aimed at fat under the skin with high-intensity focused electromagnetic pulses that drive strong muscle contractions. Most of the published evidence for this pairing comes from studies of a brand-name device that uses the same two energies.
The strongest single study is a sham-controlled randomized trial of 72 people. The active group received three abdominal treatments, one a week, at the highest intensity they could tolerate, while the sham group received the same visits at 5% power. At three months, the active group’s abdominal fat thickness had dropped by 28.3% (7.6 mm) and rectus abdominis thickness had increased by 24.2% (2.3 mm). The changes held at six months, and the sham group showed no significant change.
| Study | What was treated | Main finding |
|---|---|---|
| Sham-controlled trial, 72 people | Abdomen, 3 weekly sessions | Fat down 7.6 mm, muscle up 2.3 mm at 3 months; sham unchanged |
| Systematic review, 15 studies | Abdomen (8 imaging studies) and other areas | Mean fat down 5.5 mm, muscle up 2 mm; two studies found marginal or no benefit |
| Upper-arm study, 31 completers | Triceps area, 4 sessions | Fat down 4.9 mm, muscle up 8.9 mm at 3 months, by MRI |
| Critical review, 7 studies | Various areas | Changes likely within measurement error; all authors linked to the manufacturer |
How much should you trust it?
With some caution. A 2024 review in the Annals of Plastic Surgery examined seven studies of the combined device, covering 265 patients, and found that every one was authored by medical advisors to the manufacturer. Most had no control group, photographs were often not standardized, and the reviewer judged the measured changes likely within the margin of error and of questionable clinical relevance.
The 2024 systematic review was kinder but still flagged gaps: two of its studies reported marginal or no benefit, many left out basic patient details, and none reported weight change. The sham-controlled trial is the strongest evidence in favor, and three of its authors also advised the manufacturer.
The honest summary: expect a few millimeters, measured over months, not a new body. That can matter a lot to a lean man and very little to a man with a thick layer of belly fat.
Who is a poor candidate?
Several groups should not have it at all, and others will not get much from it.
Should not have it. The upper-arm study excluded people with metal or electronic implants, cardiovascular disease, a malignant tumor or pregnancy. Pacemakers and implanted defibrillators are the obvious examples. Our answer on who should not get NEO Slim covers the full list.
Unlikely to be happy. Men with a lot of weight to lose, men whose belly is large and firm from visceral fat, and men expecting a big drop on the scale. For them, medical weight loss usually changes more than any device, and our comparison of NEO Slim vs GLP-1 medicines explains the difference.
Most likely to notice a change. Men near their goal weight with a soft, pinchable layer at the belly, flanks or arms, who train and want sharper definition.
Related question: how does it compare with other options?
Each option solves a different problem. Freezing treatments target fat only, liposuction removes fat surgically, and weight-loss medicines change fat everywhere. Our comparisons of NEO Slim vs CoolSculpting and NEO Slim vs liposuction set them side by side.
How Ultimate Male sets expectations before you start
A consultation is required before any treatment, and it starts with whether you are a candidate at all. Your provider checks for implants and medical conditions, looks at where your fat sits, and may suggest a body composition analysis so you have a baseline to measure against.
Ultimate Male has not published a standard number of sessions, and your plan is set after that assessment. Appointments take about 30 minutes with no required downtime, and results vary from man to man. If weight loss would serve you better, you will hear that first.
