What happens on each day after a VI Peel?
The VI Peel follows a fairly predictable week. The manufacturer’s treatment guide says a typical face shows some flaking by day two and peeling on days three to five, that peeling eases by day six, and that most people have stopped by day seven. Here is what that feels like in practice.
- Treatment day. You leave with the solution still on your skin. Expect warmth and tingling that settles quickly, and a slightly tan or flushed look. Nothing goes on your face for the first four hours, not even sunscreen, so head straight home or back to an indoor desk.
- Days 1 and 2. Skin feels tight and dry, like a mild sunburn. Fine flaking may begin by the end of day two.
- Days 3 to 5. This is the visible stretch. Skin comes away in flakes and thin sheets. It looks worse than it feels.
- Day 6. Peeling slows. Most of the face is now fresh, slightly pink skin.
- Day 7 and after. Most people have finished. Any lingering pinkness fades over the following days.
The VI Peel FAQ adds the most important rule for the whole week: do not pull back skin that is shedding. Loose pieces can be trimmed with clean, small cuticle scissors instead.
Can you keep working through the peeling days?
Most men can. Desk work and remote work carry on as normal, and the first two days are rarely noticeable to anyone else. Days three to five are the ones to think about if your job involves clients, cameras or a lot of face time.
Outdoor work takes more planning. The FAQ says to avoid direct and extreme sun exposure for the first seven days, while everyday errands are fine with sunscreen and a hat. For a man on a job site or a delivery route, that usually means scheduling the peel so the heaviest days fall on days off.
| Job type | How the week usually goes |
|---|---|
| Office or remote | Work as normal; turn the camera off on days 3 to 5 if you prefer |
| Client-facing or sales | Book so days 3 to 5 land on a weekend or time off |
| Outdoor or construction | Book before days off; hat, shade and sunscreen when you return |
| Kitchen or high-heat work | Ask your provider; heat and sweat can irritate peeling skin |
When can you get back to the gym?
Give it three to four days. The FAQ advises no exercise for 72 to 96 hours after the peel, to avoid blistering and dark marks from heat and inflammation. If you have melasma or skin that darkens easily, the manufacturer advises waiting through the whole peeling period.
Pools take longer. The FAQ recommends no swimming for 7 to 10 days, because chlorine can irritate the new skin. Shaving waits too: you can shave once peeling has finished, at about day seven. If a week of stubble does not suit your job, factor that into the timing.
How far ahead of an event should you book?
Book at least two weeks before anything with photos. Peeling usually ends around day seven, and the extra week gives any pinkness or sensitivity time to settle and leaves room for an unexpectedly slow peel.
For bigger goals, start earlier. When a specific concern such as sun damage or acne marks is being treated, the manufacturer generally recommends a series of three to six peels, about four to six weeks apart, so a plan aimed at a wedding or reunion can begin months ahead. Our aesthetic treatment timeline before an event maps out the full countdown.
What is not normal downtime?
The American Academy of Dermatology puts healing at 1 to 7 days for light peels and 7 to 14 days for medium peels, so a week of peeling and a few more days of pinkness sits within the normal range. Some things do not: blisters, oozing, pain that gets worse instead of better, or a cold sore flare. Call the clinic if you notice any of them.
The AAD also notes that people with darker skin can safely have peels when treated by someone experienced with darker skin tones, since the wrong approach can leave pigment problems behind.
