The quick verdict
For frown lines alone, the two perform similarly at labeled doses, so the choice often comes down to your injector’s experience, how your last treatment lasted, and price per area. If you also want forehead lines or crow’s feet treated, BOTOX Cosmetic is the product with FDA approval for those areas. Jeuveau can be used there too, but that use is off-label.
Either way, men usually need more units than the label dose for frown lines, because the muscles between the brows are bigger and stronger. That matters more to your result than the brand. For a first treatment, the product your injector uses most often for male frown lines is a sensible default; next time you can try the other and compare how long each one lasts on you.

How each one works
Both products block the release of acetylcholine at the nerve ending, so the injected muscle relaxes for a few months. Lines that form when you frown soften because the muscle cannot pull as hard. The American Academy of Dermatology says most people see results within 3 to 7 days, with improvements lasting about 3 to 4 months and sometimes longer.
The Jeuveau label approves it for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults, and states plainly that it is not approved for any other condition. The BOTOX Cosmetic label covers glabellar lines, lateral canthal lines (crow’s feet), forehead lines and platysma bands in the neck. OnabotulinumtoxinA has also been used for medical conditions for decades, which gives it a much longer track record.
How unit dosing compares
On paper, the frown line dose is identical: both labels call for 4 units into each of five sites, 20 units in total. Both labels also state that their units are specific to the product and not interchangeable with other botulinum toxins. In practice, injectors often treat a Jeuveau unit and a BOTOX unit as roughly equivalent for frown lines.
A 2024 phase II trial supports that rough match. In a randomized study of 154 adults, the median duration of effect was 149 days with 20 units of Jeuveau and 148 days with 20 units of onabotulinumtoxinA. A 40-unit Jeuveau arm lasted a median 183 days, but 40 units is twice the labeled dose and remains off-label.
Men add another layer. In a dose-ranging study of 80 men treated with onabotulinumtoxinA, doses of 40, 60 and 80 units were consistently more effective for frown lines than 20 units, and the authors concluded men benefit from starting doses of at least 40 units. That study used BOTOX, but the principle, bigger muscles need more toxin, applies to Jeuveau as well. Our answer on how many units of BOTOX men need breaks this down by area.
At your visit, ask how many units are planned for each area and compare quotes on the full treatment, not the per-unit figure. A lower price per unit can still produce a higher total if more units are needed.
Side effects and safety
Both products share the same class profile, including a boxed warning that toxin effects can spread beyond the injection site, which is rare at cosmetic doses. Common effects are temporary: headache, bruising, and in some cases a drooping eyelid if the toxin reaches the muscle that lifts it. Careful placement above the brow bone lowers that risk.
If you notice trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing after any toxin injection, call 911 or go to an emergency room. Buy only from licensed medical settings; our article on counterfeit BOTOX warnings explains why. Aftercare is the same for both products, and our BOTOX aftercare guide for men lists the simple rules for the first day.
Cost and convenience factors
Price depends on the product, the number of units and the areas treated, and men’s higher unit needs push the total up. Ultimate Male does not publish prices; the BOTOX for men cost page explains the drivers, and the clinic quotes your plan before treatment. Cosmetic wrinkle treatment is generally not eligible for FSA or HSA funds, because IRS Publication 502 excludes cosmetic procedures. If you would rather spread the cost, CareCredit, Prosper Healthcare Lending and Afterpay can split a treatment into payments.
How Ultimate Male helps you choose
Ultimate Male offers BOTOX, XEOMIN and Jeuveau, so the choice is about your face rather than what is in stock. The nurse injector watches you frown, raise your brows and squint, notes how strong each muscle is, and asks how long past treatments lasted. Men treating only the frown lines can weigh Jeuveau for men against BOTOX for frown lines. Men who also want forehead or crow’s feet treatment may lean toward BOTOX Cosmetic for its broader approvals.
Dosing stays precise and conservative so your expression still looks like you. See all options on the wrinkle relaxers page, or read our comparison of BOTOX and XEOMIN if accessory proteins are on your mind.
