Why a groom’s plan starts from the wedding date
The wedding date sets the order of every treatment, because each one needs a different amount of time to settle. A weight-loss medicine takes months to reach its full dose. Filler can bruise or swell for up to two weeks. A peel flakes for several days. Wrinkle relaxers take days to work and then hold for months.
Booked in the wrong order, these overlap: a fresh peel on top of filler swelling, or a first-ever BOTOX treatment the week of the rehearsal dinner with no time to adjust it. Working backward avoids that, and it leaves a buffer at the end where nothing new happens at all.
The timeline at a glance
Here is how the plan usually lays out, counting back from the day.
| Time before the wedding | Treatment | Why this timing |
|---|---|---|
| 6 to 3 months | Medical weight loss, if you qualify | The dose is raised step by step and takes about four months to reach maintenance |
| About 6 to 8 weeks | Trial wrinkle relaxer, if you have never had one | Lets you see your response and adjust before the real session |
| At least 4 weeks | Dermal filler | Swelling and bruising need up to two weeks, plus time for a touch-up |
| No closer than 2 weeks | VI Peel | Peeling runs for several days and new skin needs sun protection |
| 2 to 3 weeks | Wrinkle relaxer | The effect has settled and will last well past the honeymoon |
| Final 10 days | Nothing new | Only rest, sleep, sunscreen and water |
Your own plan may drop steps. Many grooms only want a wrinkle relaxer and a peel. The point is the order, not doing everything. Our general guide to timing aesthetic treatments before an event covers birthdays, reunions and work events too.
Three to six months out: weight loss first
If losing weight is part of the goal, it has to start earliest. GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide are started at a low dose and stepped up. The Wegovy label increases the weekly dose every four weeks and reaches the maintenance dose at week 17, and it allows a step to be delayed by four weeks if side effects are a problem. Starting six weeks before the wedding leaves you on low doses, often with nausea, and with little weight lost.
Not every groom qualifies. The label covers adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition, and the decision follows labs and a medical evaluation, not a deadline. Our medical weight loss program starts with that workup.
Weight loss also changes the face. Losing a lot quickly can thin the cheeks and temples, which is one reason filler comes later in the plan rather than first. Our page on facial volume loss after GLP-1 weight loss explains what changes and why.
The final six weeks: filler, wrinkle relaxers and a peel
The last six weeks hold the three cosmetic steps, each with its own minimum gap before the day.
At least four weeks out: filler
Filler belongs no later than four weeks before the wedding. The American Academy of Dermatology says redness, swelling, tenderness and occasional bruising tend to clear within 7 to 14 days. Four weeks covers that window and still leaves time for a small top-up if one side looks fuller than the other.
For grooms, filler is usually about structure: a sharper jawline, a little support under the cheekbones, or softening deep lines from nose to mouth. If you are losing weight, wait until your face has stopped changing before choosing how much. Our page on jawline filler for men shows what that treatment involves.
Two to three weeks out: wrinkle relaxers
Wrinkle relaxers fit closer to the day because they work quickly and last. The AAD’s botulinum toxin overview says most people see results within 3 to 7 days, lasting about 3 to 4 months. A session two to three weeks before the wedding means the result has fully settled for photos, with a few days spare for a touch-up.
If you have never had one, do a trial run six to eight weeks out. Men’s stronger muscles often need more units than a first guess, and the brow should stay flat rather than lift. Our page for men new to injectables explains why a first treatment is kept to one area with a review at two weeks. On the wedding day, you want your second treatment, not your first.
No closer than two weeks: the VI Peel
A VI Peel can brighten tone, soften texture and even out sun damage before the photos, but it needs space. The manufacturer’s VI Peel FAQ says peeling usually starts around day three and continues for three to four days, and it advises avoiding direct, strong sun for the first seven days. Two weeks gives the new skin time to calm and look even.
Plan around the honeymoon as well. A beach trip a few days after a peel is a poor match, so the two-week rule protects both events. Our VI Peel for men page covers who it suits and how many sessions a goal usually takes.
Questions to ask at your planning visit
Bring the date and these questions:
- Which treatments are worth it for my goals, and which can I skip?
- If I start weight loss, how much can I realistically expect by the wedding?
- When should my trial wrinkle relaxer be, if I have never had one?
- How will we time filler if my face is still changing with weight loss?
- What should I avoid in the final ten days?
Keep emergencies separate from planning. Trouble breathing, swallowing or speaking after a wrinkle relaxer, sudden vision changes after filler, or a severe allergic reaction needs 911 or the ER.
Planning your wedding prep at Ultimate Male
At our San Gabriel or Downey clinic, the planning visit starts with your date and works back. Our aesthetic and men’s health nurses map the injectable and peel steps, and if weight loss is part of the plan, a PA-C or MD runs the medical evaluation and labs before any medicine is considered. Each step gets its own appointment so nothing overlaps.
Cosmetic injectables and peels are generally not FSA or HSA eligible under IRS Publication 502, and the clinic does not bill insurance. You pay per visit, with financing through CareCredit, Prosper Healthcare Lending and Afterpay. Call 626-319-5261 with your date, or browse our aesthetics services for men to start the plan.
