How long does jawline filler last?

Short answer

It depends on the product. In the FDA study of RADIESSE (+) for jawline contour, about two in three people who responded at 12 weeks still held the result at 48 weeks. The American Academy of Dermatology lists hyaluronic acid fillers at about 4 to 12 months, with dense gels such as VOLUMA at the longer end. Lean, very active men often see results fade sooner.

How long does each jawline product last?

The honest answer is about a year for a firm jaw filler, with wide variation between men. The two products used for jaw and chin work at Ultimate Male have different evidence behind them.

Product Material What the FDA study showed General range (AAD)
RADIESSE (+) Calcium hydroxylapatite 67.3% of people who responded at week 12 still held the result at week 48 6 months to 1 year
VOLUMA XC Dense hyaluronic acid In the chin study, 57.6% met the response target on photo review at 12 months About 4 to 12 months for HA fillers

The RADIESSE figure comes from its FDA study summary for jawline contour, the only one of the two approved for the jawline itself. VOLUMA is approved for the chin, so the VOLUMA chin study summary is the closest data; using it along the jaw is off-label. The general ranges come from the American Academy of Dermatology.

Why might lean, active men break filler down faster?

Injectors commonly see shorter results in very lean, athletic men, though no trial has tested that directly, so treat it as experience rather than proof. A few factors plausibly contribute. With little fat over the jaw, a small loss of filler shows sooner. Strong chewing muscles work over the jaw angle all day. And a body that turns over tissue quickly may clear the material faster.

The studies do hint that men are harder to treat to target. In the RADIESSE trial, 66.7% of men responded at week 12 against 77.5% of women, though only 21 men were included. In the VOLUMA chin study, men received a median 3.7 mL compared with 2.0 mL for women, and the small male group did not meet the main effectiveness goal. A larger jaw simply needs more product, and an underfilled jaw fades from view sooner.

What else shortens or extends a jawline result?

Several things move the timeline:

  • Amount placed. An undercorrected jaw looks finished for a shorter time because there is less margin to lose.
  • Touch-ups. Both FDA studies allowed a touch-up about a month after the first session, which builds a more complete result.
  • Ongoing aging. The 2023 jawline guidance explains that the jaw angle blunts with age through bone remodeling and loss of fat and skin support, so the face keeps changing under the filler.
  • Weight change. Losing a lot of weight, including on GLP-1 medicines, removes fat that frames the jaw and can change how the filler looks.

How often will you need a top-up?

Plan to reassess at about a year. In the VOLUMA chin study, 74 of 128 people who reached the month-12 visit chose a repeat treatment, and the RADIESSE study offered retreatment after the 48-week review. Your nurse will look at your photos from the first visit and suggest a top-up only where definition has faded.

Top-ups often use less product than the first session, because part of the structure is still there. That usually makes maintenance visits smaller than the first one, which our jawline filler cost page explains in more detail.

Is hyaluronic acid or RADIESSE the better start?

It depends on what matters more to you. VOLUMA can be dissolved if you dislike the result, which suits a first-timer. RADIESSE gives a firmer edge along the jaw and has the jawline-specific FDA data, but it cannot be reversed. Our JUVÉDERM versus RADIESSE comparison goes through the trade-offs, and our page on whether filler can be dissolved explains reversibility.

How Ultimate Male plans for jawline longevity

Your nurse takes standardized photos before treatment, places enough product to give the result a real margin, and books a check about a month later for any touch-up. That first-month review is also the time to talk about how long your result is likely to hold, given your build and activity level.

If you are losing weight or noticing the jaw soften with age, our page on loss of jawline definition in men explains the causes. When you are ready, see jawline filler for men or the full dermal fillers menu. Filler for appearance is not generally FSA or HSA eligible; financing through CareCredit, Prosper Healthcare Lending and Afterpay is available.

Still unsure? Take the free assessment

Will my jaw look worse than before when the filler wears off?
No. Temporary fillers are absorbed gradually, so the jaw drifts back toward where it started. Aging continues in the meantime, which is why the face can look like it lost ground compared with the treated result.
Can I make jawline filler wear off faster if I do not like it?
Only if it is hyaluronic acid. VOLUMA can be dissolved with an enzyme within days; RADIESSE cannot be dissolved and fades on its own timeline.
Do I need the same amount each time?
Usually not. In the RADIESSE (+) jawline study, the median first treatment was 1.8 mL per side, while touch-ups a month later used about 1.1 to 1.25 mL per side.
